THE CENTER FOR ISLAM, DEMOCRACY, AND THE FUTURE OF THE MUSLIM WORLD, in conjunction with Hudson Institute's newly-established Center for European Studies, cordially invites you to a panel discussion on:France's Riots, Europe's Muslimswith Xavier GuilhouMr. Guilhou is the author of La Fin du Risque Zero.Hillel Fradkin Dr. Fradkin is a senior fellow at Hudson Institute and the director of the Center on Islam, Democracy and the Future of the Muslim World.Robert LeikenMr. Leiken is the director of the Immigration and National Security Program at Nixon Center.John O'Sullivan Mr. O'Sullivan is a senior fellow at Hudson Institute and the director of the Center for European Studies. He is also the author of a recent New Criterion article on Muslims and British national identity. The recent spate of riots in France provoked a major international debate about France's once-heralded republican model of social integration and a new focus on the future of Europe's largely unassimilated and predominantly Muslim minority communities. The fact that these riots followed the Madrid and London bombings and have since been succeeded by anti-Muslim riots in Australia raises many unsettling questions. Is the multiculturalism model a solution or part of the problem? Did the French riots have largely economic or cultural origins? Can Muslim minorities in Europe be assimilated? And if so, how? The purpose of Hudson Institute's Center on Islam, Democracy and the Future of the Muslim World is to research and analyze the ideological dimension of Islamism and radical Islam, and to encourage and support moderate and democratic alternatives within the Muslim world. As part of this effort, the center has established the Islam and Democracy Project, a series of seminars and conferences with Muslim scholars and leaders on the present and future relationship between Islam and democracy. Hudson Institute is a non-partisan policy research organization dedicated to innovative research and analysis that promotes global security, prosperity and freedom. We challenge conventional thinking and help manage strategic transitions to the future through interdisciplinary and collaborative studies in defense, international relations, economics, culture, science, technology and law. Through publications, conferences and policy recommendations, we seek to guide global leaders in government and business. |
